 <p>An internship at SAM provides selected students and early-career professionals with a wide range of opportunities and experiences in the museum field. Interns work directly with SAM staff on collaborative projects that are relevant to their career goals and that visibly impact the museum’s programs, exhibitions, operations, and more.</p>
 <p>The SAM Technology Department encompasses both Information Technology and Audio Visual Services and supports staff at three sites. Our IT team supports networking, software, servers, and desktop hardware and the associated accounts and credentials. The AV team supports events for SAM internal activities and meetings and external events for clients such as corporate meeting spaces, weddings, and receptions.</p>
 <h3 class="jobSectionHeader"><b> TECHNOLOGY INTERN</b></h3>
 <p>Working with the Director of Technology and the Associate Director of Audio Visual Services, this intern will learn the processes and policies necessary to support a diverse team of over 300 staff members across all departments. Our team supports SAM staff in their mission to Connect Art to Life, and this could include:</p>
 <ul>
  <li>Working with our Senior Systems Engineer to monitor and maintain a robust infrastructure of virtualized Hyper-V servers and networking hardware that acts as the backbone of SAM’s IT services.</li>
  <li>Taking part in a migration of legacy on-premises Microsoft services to their cloud-based counterparts on Microsoft 365.</li>
  <li>Answering help desk tickets with our Senior IT Support Administrator.</li>
  <li>Learning how our Software Developer and Business Systems Analyst deliver customized software solutions and reporting.</li>
 </ul>
 <ul>
  <li>Shadowing our AV team to learn how SAM works with on-call technicians to support a variety of events and in-house AV needs.</li>
 </ul>
 <h3 class="jobSectionHeader"><b> LEARNING OBJECTIVES </b></h3>
 <p>This intern will learn the ins and outs of non-profit IT and AV including:</p>
 <ul>
  <li>Developing the interpersonal skills to communicate successfully with a diverse group of end users with different workflows and responsibilities.</li>
  <li>Working within a non-profit budget structure.</li>
  <li>Supporting a variety of cloud services including MS 365, Slack, and Asana.</li>
  <li>Working with a large, multi-functional Constituent Management System (Tessitura).</li>
 </ul>
 <h3 class="jobSectionHeader"><b> </b></h3>
 <h3 class="jobSectionHeader"><b> PAY RANGE</b><b>: </b>The hourly rate for this role is $19.97.</h3>
 <h3 class="jobSectionHeader"><b> FSLA STATUS &amp; COMPENSATION: </b></h3>
 <p>This intern will be hired as a temporary, non-exempt employee. Along with the above pay rate, this intern will be eligible for the following benefits:</p>
 <ul>
  <li>Paid sick time accrued at a rate of 0.0385 per hour worked, estimated at 5.75 hours total for a 10-week intern.</li>
  <li>SAM Savings &amp; 403(b) Retirement Plan, with Roth option available.</li>
 </ul>
 <p>Fringe benefits include two guest passes to SAM, access to RIC Fitness Center, Tier III AAM membership, discounts for SAM membership, Shop, and MARKET, access to member rates for ticketed events at SAM, and a subsidized ORCA card.</p>
 <p><b> EXPECTED TIME COMMITMENT</b>:</p>
 <p>20 hours per week, for 10 weeks. Schedule is flexible within Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm office hours.</p>
 <p>Due to the hands-on nature of this internship, a majority of this position’s work will be on-site. Limited weekly hours for remote work may be available, if flexible scheduling is needed.</p>

  <li>Attend enrichment sessions, informational interviews, and check-ins as available.</li>

  <li>Some professional experience or previous coursework in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Development, or related fields is strongly preferred.</li>
  <li>Proficiency in general computer use, including Microsoft Office, is required.</li>
  <li>Strong writing and communication skills, and ability to clearly articulate goals, progress, and outcomes to a professional audience.</li>
  <li>Clear understanding of and ability to discuss concepts related to racial equity, intersectionality, and social justice.</li>
  <li>Ability to ask for help and accept supervision and evaluation of your work.</li>
  <li>Ability to work with others professionally and tactfully.</li>
  <li>Ability to adhere to museum policies and support management decisions in a positive, professional manner.</li>

 <p><b> EDUCATION &amp; REQUIRED EXPERIENCE</b></p>
 <p>Applicants are not required to have previous professional or museum experience. Candidates with some background in Information Technology are preferred and are best positioned to get the most out of this specific internship.</p>

 <p><b> Exposure</b><b>: </b>Work areas are primarily inside, in a climate-controlled environment with light background noise. Work is occasionally performed at other indoor and outdoor sites.</p>
 <h3 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES REQUIRED FOR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</b></h3>
 <p><b> Stationary Work</b><b>: </b>Approximately 80% of time is spent stationary while working at a desk. Balance of time (approximately 20%) is spent moving around the work area. Occasional extended periods of standing may be required when assisting at Museum events.</p>
 <p><b> Communication:</b><b> </b>Clear and effective communication with volunteers, donors, members, the public, and co-workers is necessary.</p>
 <p><b> Moving</b><b>: </b>The ability to move up to twenty pounds on occasion is necessary for moving files, equipment, and supplies. Must be able to regularly position self to access files.</p>
 <p><b> Office Work</b><b>: </b>Ability to effectively and regularly operate a computer, keyboard, and other office productivity machinery, such as copy machines and printers, and ability to inspect, prepare, and use paperwork, files, equipment, and supplies is necessary.</p>
