Requirements

  • Experience in Environmental Science, Education, or related field
  • Experience working with youth in educational or outdoor settings.
  • Knowledge of gardening, urban agriculture, or environmental conservation principles.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to various sites within the Houston community
  • Intern Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience developing educational curriculum or lesson plans.
  • Familiarity with community outreach strategies.
  • Basic knowledge of climate change and its impacts on communities.
  • First Aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain it.
  • Fluency in Spanish or other languages commonly spoken in the Houston community (preferred but not required).

Responsibilities

  • Support existing feeder pattern community gardens created by FURR H.S
  • Facilitate outdoor environmental education and climate resilience activities for urban youth (K-12).
  • Co-lead conservation summer crews for high school students.
  • Develop curriculum to integrate into environmental education programs.
  • Conduct community outreach to promote programs offered at the Urban Tree House.
  • Maintain accurate records of youth served and programs facilitated.
  • Assist in leading community garden projects and conservation service projects such as tree maintenance and invasive plant removal.
  • Collaborate effectively with SCA staff and represent SCA at community events.
  • Marginal Duties:
  • Support other SCA initiatives as needed.
  • Collaborate with partner organizations on joint projects or events.
  • Assist in recruiting volunteers or participants for programs.
