Requirements

  • Experience working with youth is a must;
  • Willing to work occasional off hours and outdoors in inclement; weather;
  • California State Drivers’ License with a good driving record;
  • Willingness to submit a copy of driving record if hired;
  • Commit to 40 hours per week ; 12-month commitment;

  • Experience leading/facilitating youth through structured activities;
  • Able to engage and comfortable managing groups of youth and/or; adults for 2+ hours;
  • Works well in a team setting and similarly, is self-motivated and can; work independently;
  • Passion for the environment and working outdoors;
  • A high commitment to learning about San Francisco Parks and Open Spaces;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Computer literate; MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint, Internet;

  • Highly collaborative team player able to motivate and work with staff and partners and work cross-functionally between SFRPD departments
  • Able to work well under pressure and adapt easily to changing situations and priorities, while exercising good judgment and staying focused on overarching goals.
  • Enjoys working with diverse intergenerational crowds, and has a strong interest in working with youth;
  • B.A. or B.S. in a related subject (preferred not required);
  • Multi-lingual, ideally in Spanish and/or Cantonese;
  • Interest and experience in Urban Agriculture and Urban Park;
  • Comfortable driving large trucks or willing to learn;
  • Ideally Bay Area resident;
  • Passion for the environment and working outdoors and genuine interest in connecting youth to nature;
  • Previous related experience or background in biology, environmental studies, or other related subjects or strong interest and willing to learn independently and through experience ;

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, schedule, and co-lead in-class presentations and; thematic field trips to San Francisco’s city parks and natural areas for; grades 2nd -12th grade.;
  • Utilize environmental education curriculum and resources to create; meaningful lesson plans;
  • Have an ongoing dialogue with teachers and educators to schedule; field trips and modify the established YSP curriculum to meet teachers’; needs when necessary.;
  • Maintain thorough data collection and records including creating and; conducting surveys, capturing media documentation, creating reports; etc., to meet grant deliverables.;
  • Support Occasional Greenager and large volunteer workdays on Saturdays (as needed)
