What are the primary responsibilities of the PT Pharmacy Graduate Intern?
The primary responsibilities include providing customer service, assisting pharmacists in dispensing prescriptions, entering information into the computer, ordering and receiving products, stocking, record keeping, answering telephone calls, and maintaining the overall conditions of the Pharmacy Department.
Is the intern required to work under supervision?
Yes, all dispensing activities must occur under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
What information must the intern obtain from new patients?
The intern must obtain information including the patient's birth date, address, VIC number, phone number, drug allergies, disease states, and any preferences regarding non-childproof containers.
How should the intern handle patient privacy?
The intern should provide the "Notice of Privacy Practices" and acknowledgment form to each new patient/representative and monitor the patient signing for HIPAA compliance.
Can the intern provide medication counseling to patients?
An intern may provide medication counseling at the discretion and under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
What type of data must the intern assist in entering into the computer?
The intern must assist in entering patient, drug, and prescription data, as well as ensuring correct DAW codes are entered.
What physical tasks is the intern expected to perform?
The intern is expected to assist in lifting up to 40 lbs when stocking and retrieving medications and products and reaching heights from 6 inches to 72 inches.
What is the minimum academic requirement for this internship position?
The intern must have successfully completed 30 or more credit hours at an accredited school of pharmacy.
How should the intern engage with customers?
The intern should effectively communicate with customers, greet them, answer their inquiries, and assist in handling their transactions.
Are there expectations regarding the cleanliness and organization of the pharmacy?
Yes, the intern is responsible for maintaining a clean and organized pharmacy, including the work counter, shelves, floors, windows, and the customer service area.
What are the working relationships important for the intern?
The intern will have working relationships with customers, pharmacy associates, medical office staff, store management, regional management, and support staff.
What should the intern do if they need to apply the hours worked towards licensure requirements?
The intern must provide all relevant paperwork to the supervising pharmacist (Preceptor) and work cooperatively with them to meet the expectations set for the internship.
