What are the primary responsibilities of a PT Pharmacy Graduate Intern?
The primary responsibilities include providing customer service, assisting pharmacists in dispensing prescriptions, entering information into the computer, checking in orders, stocking, record keeping, answering telephone calls, and maintaining the overall conditions of the Pharmacy Department.
Is the PT Pharmacy Graduate Intern required to comply with any regulations?
Yes, the Intern must comply with all State and Federal regulations, which require that all dispensing activities occur under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
What information should the Intern gather from new patients?
The Intern should gather new patient information including their address, VIC number, phone number, birth date, drug allergies, disease states, and whether they wish to receive medications in non-childproof containers.
Can the Intern provide medication counseling to patients?
An Intern may provide medication counseling at the discretion and under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
What is required for the Intern to assist in prescription processing?
The Intern must obtain necessary information to dispense and bill Third Party prescriptions, including identification numbers, insurance carrier information, and patient signatures.
What tasks are involved in medication handling for the Intern?
The Intern will assist in counting, pouring, measuring, compounding, and packaging medication for dispensing to patients, as well as returning medications to and from pharmacy shelves.
How should the Intern handle phone calls at the pharmacy?
The Intern should answer the telephone according to Harris Teeter policy and may receive original telephone prescription orders under the supervision of a pharmacist.
Are there any physical requirements for the Intern position?
Yes, the position may require lifting up to 40 lbs. and reaching heights from 6 inches to 72 inches during tasks such as ordering, receiving, verifying, pricing, and stocking pharmaceuticals.
Does the Intern need to submit paperwork to the supervising pharmacist?
Yes, if the hours worked by the Intern apply towards licensure requirements, they need to provide all relevant paperwork to the supervising pharmacist (Preceptor).
What qualifications are mandatory for this position?
A successful completion of 30 or more credit hours at an accredited school of pharmacy is mandatory for this position.
