Requirements

  • Completion of a high school diploma is required; Bachelor's degree in a Science related field is preferred, equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Apps required
  • Must be comfortable interacting directly with patients, their families, RN's and physicians
  • Experience working in a lab environment and conducting/contributing to research studies is an asset
  • Experience with AHS information systems (Connect Care) is an asset
  • Ability to be flexible, assist on multiple projects and successfully prioritize multiple responsibilities
  • Work in a professional and ethical manner, in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Will be required to complete ethics, confidentiality and lab training

Responsibilities

  • Oversee research administrative tasks, including multi-centre study communications, ordering supplies, reviewing invoices, assisting with ethics, contracts and operational approvals
  • Ensure confidentiality of study participants, including safe storage of study files and materials
  • Prepare and deliver study sampling kits and appropriate paperwork to the Neuro-ICU
  • Collect frozen samples and deliver them to the laboratory on time
  • Conduct screening and recruitment of potential study participants at the University of Alberta Hospital, including obtaining consent, regained capacity consent and follow-up screening
  • Update and maintain screening and recruitment logs
  • Complete lab duties as required e.g. assistance with lab experiments and maintenance
