What is the role of a Book Specialist volunteer?
A Book Specialist volunteer helps sort, price, and display donated books in the shop, while also assisting customers and maintaining the book section.
Do I need previous experience to volunteer as a Book Specialist?
No previous experience is needed, as full training will be provided prior to starting.
What are the typical activities I will be involved in as a Book Specialist volunteer?
Typical activities include researching and pricing books, attractively displaying books for sale, helping and advising customers, and assisting with general shop activities including working on the till if requested.
How many hours do I need to commit to volunteering?
There is no minimum commitment or fixed hours. You can volunteer a few hours during the week or weekend as agreed with the shop manager.
Can I volunteer if I am a refugee or asylum seeker?
Yes, we welcome refugees, asylum seekers, and others currently in the UK to volunteer with us, and we want volunteering to be accessible to everyone.
What kind of training will I receive as a volunteer?
You will receive complete training prior to starting your role, covering all the necessary skills and tasks you’ll need to perform.
Are travel expenses covered for volunteers?
Reasonable pre-agreed travel expenses for the role, including for attending training, are covered.
Will I be working alone or as part of a team?
You will be part of a dynamic and inclusive team, meeting new people and working together to support the shop's activities.
Is there an age limit for volunteers?
There may be some locations where we are unable to host volunteers aged 15-17. It’s best to get in touch to find a suitable volunteering opportunity.
