Responsibilities

  • To work under supervision in all areas of microbiology whilst completing relevant practical competency assessment and related sections of the IBMS Specialist Portfolio.
  • On completion of competency in each area to then work unsupervised as a Registered Biomedical Scientist in these areas taking responsibility for the area and training of Medical Laboratory Assistants on a day to day basis.
  • The post holder will be expected to join the microbiology 'on call' rota at the end of the first year.
  • Embed their generic Registration training within a microbiology laboratory and then work jointly on specialist competency across all areas of bacteriology, serology, respiratory and enteric CL3 and GUMD molecular sections whilst completing the IBMS Specialist Portfolio.
  • Our expectation is that the portfolio and relevant competencies will be completed within a 2 year window.
  • On completion of 50% the successful candidate will move off of the annexe salary to bottom spine point of Band 6 and remain capped there until award of the IBMS Specialist Diploma.
