Responsibilities

  • Be available for on call 24/7 emergency response duty using rotation schedule for dispatch coordinators.
  • Review and understand KPI's which indicate departmental performance.
  • Execute strategic plans to support the seasonality of merchandise.
  • Set up and assign freight loads to third party carriers utilizing online Transportation Management System and connecting software.
  • Maintain current carrier files by updating and communicating required information to meet all Company, state, and federal freight transportation requirements and standards.
  • Participate in cross-training activities for all dispatch positions to cover other positions as needed.
  • Negotiate rates with carriers to ensure the most cost-effective transportation for the Company.
  • Compile data and prepare various reports and correspondence as required.
  • Receive and respond to telephone calls/requests from carriers and merchandisers to ensure customer requirements are met.
  • Compile and maintain correct data for the software system from the Merchandising Department and vendors to ensure accurate transportation solutions.
  • Dispatch freight and determine best methods to secure on-time delivery and correct freight payments.
  • Maintain communications with carriers, brokers and vendors to determine status of freight loads and communicate appropriate information back to the Merchandising Department.
  • Assist with special projects as required.
