Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Manager or designate, under the clinical supervision & direction of the anesthesiologist, the Anesthesia Assistant functions as a member of an integrated surgical team by providing technical support & clinical assistance with all phases of anesthesia.
  • The AA will administer medical gases, medications, blood, or blood products, & crystalloid or colloid solutions.
  • Perform &/or initiate various invasive/ non-invasive monitoring techniques and blood tests, interpret results, evaluate patient’s response to interventions, & adjust parameters accordingly.
  • Assist with nerve block placement & assessment.
  • Perform mechanical ventilation management & internal transport of ventilated &/or anesthetized patients.
  • Communicate effectively & in coordination with the surgeon, surgical team, and anesthesiologist.
  • Perform crisis management by recognizing a critical event, notifying supervising anesthesiologist, initiate supportive or corrective actions.
  • Participate in education or orientation of medical personnel, staff, & students.
