Requirements

  • Graduate degree in a related field (e.g., social work, psychology, public health) or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered including previous work at organization where the primary role was focused on critical incidents and alternate resolutions.
  • Minimum 6 -7 years relevant experience in a university, public sector, or research-intensive setting leading professional development programming. Relevant experience in alternate resolutions and restorations; and crisis management in the areas of mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.
  • Strong familiarity, understanding and experience in working with individuals with mental health issues and illnesses.
  • Registered Social Worker in good standing with Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with relevant Ontario and Canadian statutes, including the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate both orally and in writing at all levels of an organization, including, preparing briefings and reports and delivering presentations to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success with the implementation of new initiatives and processes.
  • Demonstrated experience with program development, professional learning, service delivery, and evaluation of those activities.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles.
  • Exercises sound judgement while balancing crisis and issues management response with an awareness of institutional liability.
  • Applied knowledge of the evolutionary process of violence and threat risk assessment models.
  • Ability to keep and secure confidential case records while adhering to all University retention and FIPPA policies.
  • Sound knowledge of domestic, family, and workplace violence, trauma, mental health and disabilities, and criminal issues.
  • Trained to work from a trauma-informed systems approach.
  • Practices with an understanding of the nexus between trauma and threat assessment.
  • Knowledge of best practices related to addressing personal safety issues.
  • Familiarity with applicable Ontario and Canadian statutes, including the: Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act; the Freedom of Information and Privacy Protection Act; and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Strong knowledge of community resources for victims of domestic, family, and workplace violence.
  • Preferred certifications and training – Applied Suicide Intervention on Skills Training (ASIST), Psychological First Aid Training (Red Cross), Emergency Management, Mental Health, Alternate Resolution, Critical Issue Investigations, Workplace Restoration and Conflict Resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Director, Academic Human Resources, the Associate Director, Faculty Development and Support, leads a team to develop and deliver mental health professional development initiatives and programs for faculty and academic staff at the Faculty of Arts and Science.
  • The Associate Director, Faculty Development and Support has a leadership role in building the Division’s capacity to identify and support faculty and academic staff in crisis and for ensuring comprehensive coordination, development and implementation of high-risk, safety, crisis and issues response.
  • The incumbent work collaboratively with the offices of Campus Safety, Human Resources, Labour Relations, Student Affairs and other central University offices, as well as senior leadership in the academic and administrative units and colleges of the Faculty of Arts and Science.
  • Drawing upon an in-depth knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act and relevant University policies and processes, the Associate Director is responsible for assessing, intaking and/or establishing a case management plan for critical issues pertaining to faculty and academic staff.
  • The Associate Director will draft, develop and implement alternative resolution pathways and restoration plans.
