The primary responsibility of a City Driver is to pick up and deliver freight between Service Centers and customers while supporting the selling process.
What type of driving license is required for this position?
A Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements is required.
How much experience do I need to apply for this job?
Candidates must possess one (1) year of experience within the most recent three (3) years or successful completion of the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
Is there a requirement for a hazardous materials endorsement?
Yes, the Hazardous Materials endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of offer acceptance.
Are there physical demands associated with the City Driver position?
Yes, candidates must be able to lift/carry hand freight weighing up to 100 pounds several times a week and have the ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, and climb in and out of the truck.
Does the job require compliance with safety regulations?
Yes, the job requires compliance with hazardous material regulations and procedures, as well as all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
What kind of equipment will I be required to operate?
You will be required to operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and/or straight trucks, as well as motorized and manual equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
Will I have to communicate with customers?
Yes, communicating with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs and soliciting additional business is an essential part of the job.
Can I perform other duties besides driving?
Yes, you may be required to perform the job duties of a road driver or a dock employee where operationally necessary.
What are the working conditions for this position?
The working conditions include driving throughout the shift on all types of roads and in all types of weather, with exposure to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and hazardous materials. Hours may vary due to operational needs.
