Requirements

  • Qualified to practice law in the UK
  • 3+ years of relevant data protection and privacy experience at a law firm and/or in-house
  • Additional qualifications in data protection or technology law would be advantageous (e.g., CIPP/E, CIPP/US)
  • Proven experience in a similar role, preferably within the software, cloud services, or technology industry with a focus on multinational companies
  • Extensive knowledge of data protection laws and regulations, particularly GDPR and CCPA/CPRA
  • Familiarity with international law and cross-border data transfers
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining, and building upon, expertise in data privacy and protection laws, including GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and other global privacy laws
  • Scoping and delivering long-term data protection compliance projects covering all agreements, policies, procedures, and training required to operate compliantly and to evidence this compliance
  • Guiding privacy-forward product development in collaboration with product teams
  • Serving as a privacy advisor to departments across the enterprise, providing strategic and legal guidance on privacy issues, including international transfers and controller and processor obligations
  • Assisting business clients in complying with internal privacy policies, privacy by design requirements, and applicable privacy laws
  • Acting as the liaison with our outsourced, UK-based data protection officer
  • Conducting privacy impact assessments and data protection impact assessments
  • Reviewing and advising on sales agreements, partner agreements, and vendor agreements with respect to privacy provisions
  • Ensuring compliance with data subject rights requests from acknowledgement, carrying out searches and reviews, all the way through to disclosure
