Description

  • You will be joining a friendly team during a new and exciting phase of growth. This is a busy and wide-ranging role. A typical day might involve a morning check-in with the other members of the editorial team, followed by writing or checking copy for a book cover or online description. You will be the main port of call for colleagues’ questions about the status of manuscripts or the publishing schedule and responsible for fielding enquiries (internally and externally) for the department. Later, you might arrange approval for payments due to authors whose books are published/recently delivered, or research and contribute ideas – based on your interest in lifestyle non-fiction, self development, food, sustainability and the environment – on a project the team is looking to pursue. You will be responsible for making sure all data is correct on central databases in time for departmental deadlines as well as becoming proficient in all systems and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with editorial and administrative tasks, e.g. engaging freelancer paperwork, permissions for picture usage, processing invoices, assisting with processing expenses, preparing texts and prelims for handover to Production, proof mailouts, cover design checks using Adobe Acrobat
  • Maintaining and updating information and metadata on our central bibliographic information repository, Biblio
  • Assisting team with creating catalogue and book fair information
  • Reading and reporting on submissions
  • Arranging author meetings and other in-house and external meetings, preparing any necessary minutes and agendas
  • Maintaining key contact address books and other live resources
  • Ordering copies of printed books for authors and agents and associated mailings
  • Reporting on sales figures
  • General departmental admin.
