Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design, development, testing and on-time delivery of new and existing products throughout product lifecycles.
  • Preparation, production and modification of design schemes, calculations, specifications, detail drawings, and BOMs to the relevant quality and safety standards.
  • Ensure that the product is ‘Designed for Manufacture and Assembly’ such that it can be manufactured within tolerance, using determined datum’s and features ensuring assembly in as simple and quick a manner as possible consistently and without ambiguity. Ensure calculations and design intent are carried out as part of the design process.
  • Ensure common designs, interfaces and principles are applied consistently across all vehicle platforms and territories. Promote the re-use of parts and modular design philosophies.
  • Interface directly with internal customers and support external customers indirectly on technical issues and requirements.
  • Ensure high customer satisfaction through safe, reliable and well supported design.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant internal and international standards, best practice and legislation.
  • Ensure internal quality processes and standards are followed in line with the current Engineering Development Process.
  • Develop and maintain clear design documentation packages that comply with BS8888.
  • Give input at design review meetings.
  • To liaise with suppliers and sub-contractors where required as part of the engineering design process.
  • Be aware of product cost throughout the design engineering process.
  • Develop skills in all aspects of product engineering and design as appropriate, support this with root cause investigation and development of preventative actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Support manufacturing/production as required through to end delivery to customer.
  • Ensure service and access requirements are considered in relevant designs.
  • Investigate and support the development of solutions to reliability issues as required.
  • Incorporate solutions to known issues in new designs.
  • Complete all work in line with business milestones or individual target timescales.
