Responsibilities

  • Define component specifications and select subcomponents based on vehicle/system level requirements
  • Be able to determine and select busbar sizing in relation to current and voltage
  • Utilize Catia and have full design responsibility for Nikola high voltage power distribution units including material selection, PCB design, tolerance stack up, etc
  • Design the LV circuit internal to the component
  • Create 3D part in Catia and 2D assembly drawings
  • Design an enclosure capable of sand/die cast production that is also properly IP rated
  • Create and maintain detailed DFMEAs
  • Be able to communicate effectively with multiple engineering departments to create Nikola requirements
  • Be heavily involved in sourcing process to help GSM determine and select potential supplier
  • Be able to read and inspect electrical system architecture
  • Conduct Root cause analysis on issues in the field or prior to launch
  • Create and define Design and process validation for suppliers to follow using Nikola standards
  • Utilize CANalyzer tool and software for debugging purposes
  • Release and maintain parts in 3Dx experience
  • Be familiar with release of Change Action or Change Request process in the 3Dx system
  • Be able to diagnose communication issues between Electric Vehicle Communication Controller, charger and vehicle
  • Effectively communicate requirements to suppliers and lead weekly meetings with suppliers
  • Build development timelines according to vehicle milestones and deliver the end product in a timely manner
  • Be able to support manufacturing activities related to production line and validation truck issues
  • Be familiar with PPAP process and assist Quality engineer in supplier audits
  • Occasional travel will be required to supplier HQ/Manufacturing sites
  • Approximately 20-25% travel to Nikola manufacturing site will be required
  • Create High level presentations for management review
