Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program.
  • Active or eligible for registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).
  • Completion of an accredited specialty Orthopaedic Technician program.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
  • Graduate of recognized Advanced Education in Orthopedics program within Canada.
  • Current registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) with a CLPNA recognized orthopedic training program.
  • Current Emergency or Urgent Care experience within the last 12 months.
  • Work within a team and accept direction as required.
  • Current certification with Canadian Society of Orthopedic Technologists.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills, problem solving skills and strong decision-making ability.
  • Demonstrates Family Centered Care, professional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Effective time management, prioritization, and organizational skills.
  • Cast room experience.
  • Epic-Connect Care trained.
  • Up to date ACE modules.

Responsibilities

  • As an Orthopaedic Technician (Ortho Tech), you will apply, adjust, and remove casts, splints and traction equipment utilized in the care of orthopaedic patients (clients, residents).
  • You will observe, monitor, report and document changes in the patient's physical, mental and emotional state, while providing safe and effective, quality care.
  • You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
