  • - The SOQ must be typed, no less than 12-point font, and must include a response to both statements below, including specific examples.
  • - Describe the extent of your knowledge and/or experience with payroll, attendance/record-keeping, and employee benefits administration.
  • - Describe your ability and experience in working in a high pressure/heavy workload environment and the steps you take to ensure deadlines are met.

  • - Applications received without an SOQ or SOQs that do not include a response to both statements above may not receive further consideration in the hiring process.
  • - The position(s) may require an applicant to pass a background investigation.
  • - Applicants will not be asked to provide information about a conviction history unless they receive a conditional offer of employment.
  • - The department will make an individualized assessment of whether the conviction history has a direct or adverse relationship with the specific duties of the job and the work performed by the department.
  • - The investigation will consist of completion of a personal history statement and fingerprinting checks with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Department of Justice, and/or local law enforcement agencies.
  • - Anyone failing to pass the background investigation will be provided information on how to appeal the process.
  • - The Employment Development Department may require a new probation in accordance with applicable probationary period rules.

Responsibilities

  • - Accurately and independently interpreting and applying personnel related laws, rules, regulations, agency policies and procedures of the State Personnel Board, California Department of Human Resources, California Public Employees Retirement System, State Controller's Office, and bargaining contracts related to personnel appointments, payroll, benefits and attendance records.
  • - Act as liaison between employees and control agencies to ensure personnel and payroll documents are processed accurately and timely.
  • - Maintaining an assigned roster of full-time, part-time and intermittent positions.
  • - Utilizing a high degree of independence and problem-solving ability, researching personnel problems to provide alternative recommendations or solutions.
  • - Keeping supervisor proactively informed of progress and potential problem areas.

The work schedule is Monday to Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Yes, there is an annual recruitment and retention bonus, starting at $2,400 after 12 qualifying months and increasing with continued employment.
