The main purpose of the PRN Crisis Response Counselor position is to provide mobile crisis response and thorough, strength-based assessments of children and families experiencing mental health crises, such as suicidal thoughts, homicidal behavior, physical aggression, or psychosis, all while ensuring the safety and well-being of the clients and families involved.
What qualifications are required to apply for the PRN Crisis Response Counselor role?
A Master's degree in a clinical or mental health discipline is required, such as Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or Marriage and Family Therapy. Candidates within six months of graduating with a related Master’s degree may also be considered. Additionally, one year of clinical experience with youth is preferred, and applicants who are provisionally licensed or working towards licensure are strongly preferred.
What kind of schedule can I expect as a PRN Crisis Response Counselor?
Schedules for this position vary and include non-traditional hours. Flexibility in your schedule is required, and you may often work remotely, although some travel for in-person assessments may be necessary.
Is experience with specific populations necessary for this role?
Yes, having experience working with youth and families in crisis situations is preferred, as the counselor will be assessing and intervening with children and adolescents under the age of 18.
Will I need my own vehicle for this position?
Yes, counselors must have their own vehicle to use for work purposes, and they will also need liability insurance and an acceptable driving record.

Yes, the Youth Villages’ Specialized Crisis Services teams are based out of several cities including Memphis, Paris, Dyersburg, Jackson, Nashville, Columbia, Cookeville, Clarksville, Dickson, Chattanooga, Johnson City, Morristown, and Knoxville. Counselors may serve a 60+ mile radius from their office.
What type of documentation is required for this position?
Documentation is online and web-based, allowing counselors to complete it from home. This is part of the systematic treatment model used by the program.

Counselors will work in a highly supervised atmosphere and have the opportunity to collaborate with adult crisis teams and community consumers, ensuring a supportive environment for professional development and client care.
