Responsibilities

  • Assists in the packaging, planting and shipment of yield trial seed.
  • Conducts the field testing of designated research material using defined methods that will ensure accuracy and optimize results under experimental protocol.
  • Assists in site selection of multi-location yield trials.
  • Responsible for maintaining conventional and transgenic yield trial plots as well as nursery plots during growing season. Activities include land preparation, cultivating and spraying of herbicides, insecticides and plant growth regulators.
  • Assists lead in note taking during growing season and just before harvest on yield trials at all locations. Data includes early season vigor, boll open percent, string out, fall out and agronomic visual rating.
  • Assists cotton breeder with nursery activities throughout the year. Activities include planting, plant selections, crossing and harvesting by hand or bag picker.
  • Greenhouse activities and maintenance.
  • Performs other site related duties when required by site manager or assistant manager.
  • Operating research cotton gin.
