Responsibilities

  • Dircetly support the management, implementation and optimisation of Viasat Government Satelltie Communications Services into the Australian Department of Defence.
  • Provide technical Satellite Communications advice and assistance to SATCOM Operations in support of Defence operations and exercises, specifically with regard to the employment of Viasat services and systems;
  • Provide specialist technical support to the development, management and execution of Satellite Communications international and inter-governmental memorandums of understanding and agreements which have a Viasat component;
  • Maintain a detailed and current technical understanding of all Viasat satellite communication systems, including the ground segment and terminals;
  • Manage and prioritise OMCS requests / developments;
  • Provide specialist technical support for the training and development of SATCOM Operations / Defence staff;
  • Provide technical assistance to Commonwealth lead on pre acceptance OMCS testing and OMCS release testing activities;
  • Provide administrative support to SATCOM Operations projects and contracts / Maintain records of communications / meetings with Defence and Viasat for audit purpose (to both SO2/3 and Viasat);
  • Manage requests/activation of Viasat system services;
  • Be available during business hours, or as otherwise agreed between the parties, as an escalation point(s) of contact to Viasat service and network related matters to both Viasat and Defence;
  • Provide specialist technical support to Defence and Australian Government projects to assist the systems engineering, integrated logistics, training development and transition into operations processes of new Viasat-reliant platforms;
  • Provide technical and operator advice to Defence users of Viasat L-Band and Ka-Band systems;
  • Assist with the planning and design of SATCOM solutions to provide required services to the ADF;
  • Provide specialist technical support to the development, management and execution of SATCOM capability management and policy;
  • Work from SATOPS at HMAS Harman, and be available for both domestic and international travel if required; and
  • Comply with all applicable work health and safety legislation, codes of practice and standards, and all ADF and Commonwealth work health and safety policies and reasonable directions of the Commonwealth with respect to work health and safety.
