What is the primary role of the Sister/Charge Nurse in the Neonatal Care unit?
The primary role of the Sister/Charge Nurse is to coordinate evidence-based assessments of care needs, carry out relevant care tasks without supervision, and manage the ward in the absence of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse, including training and mentoring staff.
How many cots are available in the Special Care Baby Unit?
The Special Care Baby Unit currently has 22 cots, including 3 High Dependency Unit (HDU) cots and 4 Transitional care cots.
What opportunities for professional development are available?
Opportunities for professional development include training, supervision, and mentorship of both qualified and unqualified staff, as well as involvement in a large Neonatal workforce that includes outreach and research roles.
Is the Neonatal Care unit planning any expansions?
Yes, the department is in the process of business planning to become a Local Neonatal Unit (LNU) and looking to increase staffing in line with these developments.
What kind of feedback has the unit received recently?
The unit has received excellent recent feedback from GIRFT and PEER review and has been awarded Silver Bliss accreditation while working towards Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) status.
Is there an option for informal visits before applying?
Yes, informal visits are welcomed to give potential candidates a better understanding of the unit and the role.
Are there any vaccination requirements for this position?
Yes, due to government regulations, all staff members are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment unless they have a medical exemption.
