Requirements

  • - Knowledge, intellectual capacity, reasoning and analytical skills equivalent to those of a graduate
  • - Experience of maintenance and management of server-based systems including patching systems and software, configuring services, managing user access and backup services
  • - In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server technologies including Windows Active Directory, Terminal Services, WSUS, PowerShell and Group policy management
  • - Proven practical experience of virtualisation environments such as VMWare or HyperV and storage technologies suitable for supporting virtualisation platforms

Responsibilities

  • - Work around the maintenance and management of server-based systems including patching systems and software, configuring services, managing user access, and ensuring backup services are running and completing successfully
  • - Be involved in designing, developing and rolling out improvements to services, major upgrades and brand-new systems and services to support the changing requirements from our academic research groups
  • - Help drive the adoption of a cloud-based strategy with support from the Head of IT & IG

What are the primary responsibilities of the Systems Administrator position?

The Systems Administrator will maintain and manage server-based systems, including patching software, configuring services, managing user access, ensuring successful backup services, and designing and rolling out improvements and new systems.

What technologies will I be working with in this role?

You will work with Dell server systems, VMWare vSphere, VSAN, iSCSI based storage services, and also contribute to the development of a cloud-based strategy involving various cloud providers.

What qualifications are required for this position?

The successful applicant should have knowledge and skills equivalent to that of a graduate, along with experience in server-based systems management, Microsoft Windows Server technologies, and virtualization environments such as VMWare or HyperV.

Where is the normal place of work for this position?

The normal place of work is the Radcliffe Primary Care Building, Radcliffe Observatory Quarter, Woodstock Road, Oxford, OX2 6GG.

Is this position full-time or part-time?

The position is permanent and offered on a full-time basis, with 0.8FTE part-time hours considered.
