  • Transport Engineer Tech I:
  • Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
  • Experience: No experience required.
  • Transport Engineer Tech II:
  • Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
  • Experience: 3 years drafting, design, plan preparation (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent) (Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis)
  • Transport Engineer Tech III:
  • Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
  • Experience: 4 years drafting, design, plan preparation (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent) (Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis)
  • Licenses and Certifications:
  • Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of computer assisted design (CAD) and drafting with Microstation and SignCad as well as knowledge of TxDOT Connect and OPC systems are a plus.
  • Competencies of a Transport Engineer Tech I, II and III:
  • Considerable knowledge of:
  • Basic to Intermediate design and computer-aided drafting procedures.
  • Some knowledge of:
  • Applicable engineering work stations and applications to support efficient planning and design activities

  • Performing intermediate drafting.
  • Performing basic design and drafting.
  • Using computers and applicable programs, applications, and systems.
  • Ability to:
  • Follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
  • Required to wear protective gear-respirator, hard hat, or other device
  • Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
  • Balancing-walking, standing, crouching on various surfaces without falling
  • Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
  • Visual Acuity-operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment

Responsibilities

  • Performs basic to advanced drafting, calculations and design work; performs field work; uses automated systems; learns specialized techniques in the Dallas District Traffic Design section. Assists in the design of traffic signals, lighting systems, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), using Microstation, SignCad, BlueBeam, Adobe, and other softwares. Performs data entry for traffic projects using Oracle Primavera Cloud Services (OPC), and TxDot Connect. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer who has final approval authority for projects.
  • Essential Duties for a Transport Engineer Tech I, II and III:
  • Assists in preparation of quantity summaries.
  • Assists in preparation of lighting, signal, and ITS plans.
  • Performs basic to advanced drafting and calculations in support of design activities.
  • Works on reproduction of plans.
  • Performs basic to intermediate design work.
  • Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
