The band consists of current students at Imperial College London, and has gained an excellent reputation that grows year on year. The Band’s recent achievements include a platinum award for their performance at the National Concert Band Festival in 2016, and debut performances at Pizza Express Soho and Hideaway Streatham in 2018-20. We are a fully-auditioned big band consisting of saxophone, trumpet, trombone and rhythm sections, plus vocals. Our ever-expanding repertoire includes arrangements by Gordon Goodwin, Buddy Rich and Pat Metheny, as well as some by our own members. The band's hugely popular gigs form an integral part of the Union entertainment calendar, culminating in our annual performances at the Summer Ball. One of the highlights of the year is a summer tour! Recent locations include Barcelona, Berlin and even a UK-wide tour which took the band to Edinburgh, Newcastle, Manchester and more. The band has a very active social life revolving around weekly rehearsals, frequent gigs, attending jazz gigs around London and organised socials including an annual pub crawl, house crawl, bowling and more. Our gigs include private functions, corporate events, balls, and formal dinners. The band also features in charity concerts and performs at student venues across the country, covering a range of big band jazz including swing, Latin, funk and contemporary.
