COVID UPDATE: Keep your eye out on our Instagram (@qmangels) if you have any questions, don't be shy to send us a DM and we will try are best to answer all your questions during this confusing time.Welcome to Queen Mary Angels! We are a competitive cheerleading club made up of students from both Barts and Queen Mary. Cheerleading at University is a great way to meet people and get fit, as well as discovering your passion for a new sport. There is something for everyone, as cheerleading involves tumbling (gymnastics), dancing, jumps, and stunting (lifting and throwing people above your head!). It is an exciting, athletic, and fast reflex sport. Cheerleading teams compete directly against each other, (not cheering for other sports teams!). Check out our showreel for what we do!We welcome anyone who is willing to commit to the team, work hard, and have fun. We are not only looking for guys and girls with previous experience of cheerleading, gymnastics, or acro; so if you’re an absolute beginner don’t worry, as a majority of our members were when they started! Our qualified coaches will be able to teach you everything from scratch, and are incredibly supportive in helping you develop your skills whether you’re doing cheer recreationally or competitively.QMA is one of the most successful university cheerleading teams in the country, and the only university cheer team in the UK to have competed at the Cheerleading World Championships in Florida at the highest level. For the past two years, our Elite Team has competed at the European Championships in Prague (2017) and Helsinki (2018), and even winning silver in a large division of 17 teams in 2017! We have continued to build on our success year on year, and currently have three teams competing regularly in the UK, ready to welcome new members!Become a member of our squad to work hard and play hard. We view our team as one big family, so as well as competing at several competitions through the year, we have a calendar full of regular social events to help make sure you have the best time and integrate well into the squad. Come and be part of a highly spirited and successful team, and help us to continue that success!Taster SessionsOur taster sessions are aimed at being as inclusive as possible. We will introduce you to the basics of cheerleading and have you actively performing some skills to get a feel for the sport. You will need to wear comfortable and athletic clothes to our taster sessions. We don’t hold tryouts: all committed athletes, regardless of skill level, are allowed to compete on one or more of our teams.CompetitionsIn previous years we have competed at Future Cheer University Nationals, Legacy Regionals and Nationals, British Cheerleading Association Nationals and University Nationals, International Cheerleading Coalition University Nationals. In the past couple of years our Elite Team has competed in the European Championships.Recreational CheerleadingCOVID UPDATE: TBC QMSU also offers Get Active Cheerleading sessions for just £2.50 per session and open to all abilities.
