navigation.about
We are the local chapter of ELSA, the world's largest network of law students and young lawyers, spanning 43 countries and consisting of more than 50,000 members dotted across the globe. Through ELSA membership you will gain entry to this network of opportunities to engage with opportunities to both study and work in the international legal field. We are Kent's Society for those Interested in International Law.
Through the Student Traineeship Exchange Programme (STEP) you are able to receive internships or traineeships at all types of legal offices and firms in places ranging from Athens to Zurich. ELSA Delegations offer you the opportunity to go as the international association's representative to study the real work of the international organisations administering international law in practice including the Council of Europe, the International Criminal Court, the European Court of Human Rights and the World Trade Organisation.
Unique study opportunities are offered throughout the academic year and over the summer holidays including international conferences and the ELSA Law Schools which offer you the chance to critically learn an important and developing area of international law in a faraway place and meet law students from all across the world. ELSA Kent hosted the 1st ELSA Summer Law School on Migration Law which was the UK's first ELSA Summer Law School and welcomed 30 participants from all across the continent to study international law's most contentious issue with world-class scholars from institutions such as the University of Kent, the University of Oxford, and the European Court of Human Rights.
Through ELSA, you are offered the unique chance to grow your academic strengths and receive international recognition for them, as the association runs its own peer-reviewed Law Reviews, international Moot Court Competitions and Legal Research Groups. We will further be offering our members the chance to boost their creative writing skills by running exclusive competitions to have topical editorials published and nationally circulated in KWIB magazine.
We also offer the opportunity to visit institutions such as Parliament and the Supreme Court throughout the academic year, as well as seminars with professionals in the field of international law. A highlight of this past academic year was welcoming US Attorney Nicoletta Montefusco to address the critical issue of the international law on human trafficking and her work with intergovernmental organisations such as NATO to combat the issue.
Last but not least we allow you to grow your network of international friends and allow you to engage with law students across the country and the wider world. Our delegations to the National Council Meeting, the International Council Meeting and participants in Study Visits get to take in the world famous ELSA experience on unforgettable trips across the country and continent.
Through membership, you gain access to this international ELSA Network and the limitless opportunities it offers.
Make the most out of your time here!
