Miscarriages of Justice

Welcome to the Miscarriages of Justice Society!  What are miscarriages of justice? A miscarriage of justice is defined as “a failure of a court or judicial system to attain the ends of justice, especially one which results in the conviction of an innocent person.” Miscarriages of justice are a global problem with more innocent people being convicted each year and serving often lengthy prison sentences for crimes they did not commit.  Who are we?We are a group of students passionate about raising awareness of injustices in the criminal justice system. Our main aim is to highlight such injustices by encouraging students to think critically of the criminal process and become involved with righting the wrongs in the criminal process. We do this by hosting interesting guest talks with speakers including legal professionals, campaigners and the wrongly convicted. We also run visits to courts (both domestic and international), host charity fundraisers and host exciting social events for likeminded people to find close friends. We are closely linked with the Innocence Project London (IPL), a pro-bono service ran within the University of Greenwich. The IPL has student caseworkers who work on real cases in which convicted individuals proclaim their innocence.
