"Thou shalt not be a victim, thou shalt not be a perpetrator, but above all, thou shalt not be a bystander" The total number of Uyghur detainees in China's concentration camps and those presumed dead has now surpassed the total number of Jewish people detained and killed in the holocaust. There is a genocide taking place and the entire world is silent. Queen Mary For Uyghur Society was founded with three key missions:1 - Using our voice to raise awareness of China's ethnic cleansing and educate students2 - To protest against the unlawful detention and persecution of the Uyghur people in China3 - To bring this issue to the attention of our government We aim to complete these missions through a number of weekly workshops. The first of these will include documentary screenings, cultural evenings and lectures for students who lack awareness of this topic, and thus an opportunity for them to understand the situation with Uyghur Muslims in China and why we need to put an end to this issue. This will then be accompanied by workshops that include designing petitions, polls and drafting email/letter templates to our local councils, MPs and political representatives. Finally, once Covid leaves us behind, we intend to take this matter to the streets of London and activate peaceful protests with banners and posters designed by representatives of the society to reach a broader audience outside Queen Mary University. This is only possible through our collaboration with internal and external affiliates.
