King's College London (KCL)
navigation.about
Welcome to KCL's longest running comedy society. At Running-a-Mock we aim to provide accessible, inclusive and fun comedy experiences for all students, whether you’re a beginner or an experienced stand up. We host free workshops on comedy technique and performance every Wednesday evening 5-7pm at Bush House on the Strand Campus.
These workshops offer a safe space for members of the King’s community to have fun and hone a wide variety of comedic skills, from improv, to writing sketches, and even performing stand-up. Come along if you want to make people laugh and be one of those laughing people. Running-a-Mock also utilises London’s many opportunities for comedy enthusiasts, organising society outings and bringing comedy professionals to campus.
Our open mic events on the Strand Campus showcase the talent of Running-a-Mock members as well as that of professional comedians. These shows are free and open to all members of the King’s community, as watching and performing comedy to an audience is an essential component of becoming a competent comedian. They also rely heavily on audience participation, provide insight into the vibrant theatrical community at King’s, and are a great night out! In previous years we have held auditions and rehearsals for a student improv troupe, which performed a sold-out show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2019. If there is demand and interest, then we will look to form a new troupe for this academic year. Running-a-Mock is committed to adapting to the new challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic. Last year we continued to offer our members first-rate access to comedy performance and instruction.
We hosted weekly virtual workshops, performed themed stand-up specials and even produced our own Zoom play, ‘Hermes is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting’, which imagined the response of Ancient Greek Gods to the coronavirus pandemic. If you enjoy making people laugh, and being one of those laughing people, then please check out our Facebook and Instagram for more information on upcoming events!
