We specialise in high-value and complex patent matters. Our multidisciplinary team combines patent attorneys, litigators and commercial IP lawyers in three of the world’s main patent markets - Germany, UK and USA and now also in the Nordics through our recent expansion into Sweden. Our patent drafting, prosecution and challenges practice obtains and defends high-value and complex patents for clients, and invalidates patents held by others during post-grant proceedings including oppositions at the European Patent Office (EPO). EIP’s litigation practice has built a strong reputation for quality and success amongst its competitors and clients, with a strong track record including success in a landmark ruling on Standard Essential Patents (SEPs) from the UK Supreme Court. Increasingly our patent attorneys work closely with the litigation team in the UK and Germany providing additional technical expertise on large scale international patent litigation matters. We have represented clients in hundreds of oppositions before the EPO. We counsel clients on strategic patent portfolio development, and have implemented high-level IP strategies for some of the world’s largest companies. We also offer commercial advice on the exploitation and use of the full range of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) including patents, trademarks, design rights, copyright and other ancillary issues arising in relation to data protection and rights of privacy.

It is the perfect way to be exposed to all that a career in patent law has to offer and will enable you to decide whether it is the right path for you.  Each year we have openings during the month of June to spend two weeks with one of our practice groups as an Intern. This is a paid opportunity and our Interns will receive an allowance for the duration of the internship.  As an Intern at EIP, you will:
            
             Join informative induction sessions into life at our firm
             Attend training sessions designed to provide further insight into topics such as, but not limited to, the basics of patent protection, the role of a patent attorney, working as a trainee and key IP rights and laws
             Shadow your mentor and assist with various tasks designed to provide a representative insight into the typical work of a patent attorney
            
            Our interns are assigned a mentor and supervisor for the duration of the internship. The mentor will typically be either a current patent scientist, associate or senior associate and the supervisor will typically be one of our partners. Both will have a specialism in the technical area that best aligns with your interest and academic background.
            In addition, those who are successful in receiving an offer of an internship will be considered for a permanent patent scientist/trainee patent attorney opportunity during the internship.
           
          
          
            
          
          
            Skills, experience & qualifications
          
          We are therefore seeking individuals who are curious about intellectual property and have a keen interest in patents. Our Elements group is especially active in converging areas of science. Our primary focus is to meet those candidates in the process of undertaking a bachelors and/or masters degree in Chemistry. However, those with degrees in Biochemistry, Biopharma or similar may be of interest as well. Experience with peptides and small biologics would be of particular interest. At this stage we are unable to offer opportunities to pure organic chemists or those who specialise in antibodies.  Successful candidates will also be able to demonstrate the following:
