Work will be conducted in the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT), a Nanoscale Science Research Center and User Facility operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science by Los Alamos and Sandia National Laboratories. The student will collaborate with a team of Ph.D. scientists, postdocs, and students with expertise in quantum dot synthesis, scanning probe microscopy, and optical spectroscopy.

You need a background in biology or chemistry, experience with mass spectrometry, good lab practices, and strong communication skills. Being enrolled in an undergraduate program is essential.

You will collaborate on scientific projects, participate in meetings, conduct research, report findings, contribute to publications, and attend seminars and networking events.

The Bioscience Division is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic undergraduate intern candidate interested in performing research within the facets of mass spectrometry - especially proteomics, metabolomics, and lipidomics. The successful candidate will work with a team of scientists, technicians and students on a number of different projects ranging from exposure science and bio sample analysis, including method development, data acquisition, and data processing. The student will be expected to contribute to different projects as need arises. The ideal student must be meticulous in their work, self-starting, independent, and able to communicate in a professional manner. Depending on the performance of the student and funding availability, there are opportunities to extend the appointment by transitioning to other types of LANL positions or continuing education. 
 
The student will also act as a member of the B-TEK Group by attending group meetings, and as a member of the mass spectrometry team. Responsibilities include conducting research and reporting results back to the team at weekly meetings. Furthermore, on-the-job training and opportunities will arise to craft peer-reviewed publications and assist in grant proposals. In addition, the student is encouraged to attend seminars and other LANL functions to expand their knowledge base and broaden interests. The student will also have the opportunity to participate in networking and social events.
