Requirements

  • Currently a full-time college student enrolled in a two-year or four-year college program and following a course of study leading to a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Industrial Relations, Industrial Hygiene, Safety Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Studies, Human Resource or related degree.
  • Must be a full-time student maintaining a 2.5 GPA.
  • Intern must conduct themselves in a professional manner.
  • Knowledge of:
  • Introductory knowledge of occupational safety, industrial hygiene, and environmental compliance.
  • Ideal candidate would have strong web based program knowledge and the ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point
  • Ability to:
  • Demonstrate competence in the ability to follow through with project completion in a timely manner and have individual accountability for assignments.
  • Must be a team player with interest and enthusiasm to learn about the HSEC field and have the ability to grasp new concepts and apply them to a workplace setting.

Responsibilities

  • Support various occupational safety programs: tracking employee injuries and illness in established databases, conduct incident investigations and interviews, maintaining written policies and procedures, conduct safety assessments, and track completed safety training
  • Support environmental compliances and sustainability programs: annual completion of the Greenhouse Gas calculations, conduct environmental impact studies, and assist with regulatory compliance assessments.
  • Maintain the HSEC intranet and all electronic databases in order to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.

The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) is Orange County’s primary transportation agency. OCTA was formed in 1991 through the consolidation of seven separate transportation agencies. A 17-member Board of Directors governs OCTA with the Caltrans District Director serving as the 18th member in an ex-officio capacity.
