Requirements

  • - Must be enrolled in one of the final two (2) semesters of a nursing program leading to a degree in nursing. Employment as a Nurse Intern may not extend over a two-semester period.
  • - Must maintain good standing in the school of nursing where enrolled.
  • - Must be able to use equipment essential for patient care and follow hospital guidelines for non-critical equipment cleaning.
  • - Maintains knowledge and resources necessary to provide age appropriate care.
  • - Must be able to recognize changes and abnormalities in the patient’s condition and report to the registered nurse.
  • - Must be able to perform collect blood (by venipuncture), urine and sputum specimen.
  • - Must be able to perform point of care testing for glucose and occult blood.
  • - Must be able to insert simple urinary catheters with the assistant of other licensed nurse.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine nursing procedures and tasks related to patients within assigned area under the supervision of a nurse.
  • Assists with patient care by providing or assisting with activities including but not limited to personal hygiene, grooming, feeding, providing fluids, mobility, and comfort.
  • Communicates patient information, concerns, or issues to appropriate team member.
  • Documents care provided in the electronic health record as appropriate.
  • Complies with NMHS policies/procedures and state/federal regulatory requirements.
