What is the duration of the internship?
The internship will run for 10-12 consecutive weeks.
Is prior experience required for this internship?
While prior experience is beneficial, candidates should demonstrate academic achievement in a scientific curriculum and experience applying advanced computational science and/or mathematical principles to solve technical problems.
What type of students is eligible to apply for this position?
Graduate level students pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or other related fields who are active members of the Predictive Science Academic Alliance Program III (PSAAP III) are eligible to apply.
Is there a specific location requirement for the internship?
Yes, candidates must be eligible to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
Will I need a security clearance for this position?
No security clearance is required; however, if your assignment lasts longer than 179 days cumulatively within a calendar year, you must undergo the Personal Identity Verification process.
Are there any drug testing requirements for applicants?
Yes, selected external applicants must pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test, which includes testing for marijuana use.
How many hours per week will I be expected to work?
Students should expect to spend approximately 40 hours a week working on their research projects or participating in professional development opportunities.
What kind of projects will I work on during the internship?
You will work on research projects in areas such as computational science, computer science, numerical methods, mathematics, or other related fields, providing technical and/or research support.

Is there a presentation requirement during the internship?
Yes, interns are required to make an oral or poster presentation on the outcome of their research activities.
