The primary focus of the Research Intern position is to gain experience in clinical research and community engagement initiatives aimed at reducing health disparities among underserved and minority populations, particularly in relation to tobacco-related health disparities among LGBTQ+ communities in Los Angeles County.
What qualifications are required to apply for this internship?
Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, possess a high school diploma or GED, reside in the greater Los Angeles area, and those participating for academic credit must receive academic credit for the duration of the internship.
What is the duration and commitment for this internship?
The internship spans over 5 months with a commitment of 10-20 hours per week, totaling 400 hours of engagement in project-related activities.
Will the intern work independently or under supervision?
The intern will work under the close supervision and guidance of Zul Surani and will have weekly meetings to monitor progress and facilitate ongoing internship goals.
Are there opportunities for community engagement during the internship?
Yes, the intern will participate in local LGBTQ+ events, advocacy day events, and will have opportunities for community involvement and networking with both COE members and external community partners.
Is training provided during the internship?
Yes, training will be provided on various topics including study and survey design, health education writing, community event planning, resource development, community organizing, and presentation skills.
What are the working hours of this internship?
All activities are conducted during regular work hours, and the intern will be required to attend in-person community activities at least once a month.
How will the intern's progress be evaluated?
Interns will be evaluated based on the completion of internship goals, improved knowledge and skills, and increased independence throughout the internship. Progress reports will be completed periodically.
What type of tasks will the intern be involved in?
The intern will conduct policy reviews, engage in data collection such as observational studies, key informant interviews, and public surveys, as well as participate in community outreach and advocacy campaigns.
Is this internship paid?
Yes, the position offers a base pay ranging from $21.00 to $25.46 per hour.
