What is the purpose of the Student Dietitian Clinical Placement?
The purpose of the Student Dietitian Clinical Placement is to support FMCNA's mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy while providing medical nutrition therapy under the supervision of a registered dietitian.
Who can apply for this placement?
Individuals who are currently enrolled in a Dietetic Internship or a university-based Coordinated Program in Dietetics accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) can apply.
What are the key responsibilities of the dietetic intern?
The key responsibilities include conducting nutrition interviews, calculating diet prescription recommendations, providing nutrition counseling, assisting with the nutrition plan of care, and creating nutrition-related projects for patients or staff.
Is experience required for this position?
While previous experience is preferred, the primary requirement is to possess outstanding customer service skills and a desire to deliver superior care to patients.
Are there any physical demands associated with this position?
Yes, the physical demands include desk and computer work, interaction with patients and staff, and may require travel between assigned facilities and various locations within the community.
What educational background is required for the intern?
A Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Nutrition or Dietetics, or current enrollment in an accredited Coordinated Program in Dietetics is required.
Can interns work with family members as patients?
No, interns cannot work under the supervision of a family member or care for a patient who is a family member.
How is supervision structured for the intern?
The Clinical Manager assigns and closely monitors all Dietetic Intern assignments with direct supervision from a Registered Dietitian based on the agreed education plan.
What kind of projects can interns create?
Interns can create nutrition-related projects such as bulletin boards, patient/staff education handouts, games, and lobby activities.
What is the work environment like?
The work environment is characteristic of a healthcare facility with air temperature control, moderate noise levels, and potential exposure to infectious and contagious diseases/materials.
