What is the purpose of the Student Dietitian Clinical Placement?
The purpose is to support FMCNA's mission and provide medical nutrition therapy for patients under the supervision of a registered dietitian.
What qualifications are required for the Student Dietitian Clinical Placement?
A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nutrition or Dietetics, or current enrollment in an accredited Coordinated Program in Dietetics is required.
Who directly supervises the student intern during their placement?
The student intern is directly supervised by a registered dietitian.
Can the intern care for family members who are patients at the facility?
No, the intern cannot care for a patient who is a family member, and will be scheduled to work on days when the family member is not in the facility or be assigned to another patient.
What are the physical demands of this position?
The position involves desk and personal computer work, interaction with patients and staff, and may require travel between assigned facilities and community locations.
What types of tasks does the student intern perform?
The intern conducts nutrition interviews, calculates diet prescriptions, provides nutrition counseling, collects data for assessments, assists in developing nutrition plans, and creates nutrition-related projects.
Is customer service important in this role?
Yes, outstanding customer service to both external and internal customers is preferred, as well as a desire to deliver superior care to patients.
Are there additional duties assigned to the intern?
Yes, the intern may perform additional duties as assigned by their supervisors.
Are interns subject to any compliance programs?
