What is the purpose of the Student Social Work Clinical Placement?
The purpose of the Student Social Work Clinical Placement is to support FMCNA's mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy while providing students with an integral part of their Social Work education under the supervision of a licensed social worker.
What are the main responsibilities of the student intern in this role?
The main responsibilities include assessing patients' psychosocial status, participating in care planning, providing psycho-educational counseling, educating patients about kidney disease, and assisting with referrals to community resources.
What qualifications are required for this position?
A high school diploma or G.E.D. is required, and preferred skills include outstanding customer service and a desire to deliver superior care to patients.
Are there any specific educational requirements for the intern?
Yes, the intern must adhere to the minimum number of required field education hours established by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
Will the intern work independently?
No, the intern will work under the direct supervision of a licensed social worker and assignments will be closely monitored by the Clinical Manager.
Can interns provide services to family members?
No, interns cannot work under the supervision of a family member or care for a patient who is a family member.
What type of training will the intern receive?
The intern will receive training pertaining to psychosocial topics and will be trained in Ultra Care Programs as needed.
What kind of environment will the intern be working in?
The intern will work in a healthcare facility environment, which features air temperature control, moderate noise levels, and may involve exposure to infectious and contagious diseases/materials.
Is travel required for this position?
Yes, the position requires travel between assigned facilities and may also involve travel to regional, Business Unit, and Corporate meetings.
What additional duties might the intern be assigned?
The intern may be assigned other duties as deemed necessary by the supervising social worker or clinical manager.
