What is the main purpose of the Student Social Work Clinical Placement?
The main purpose is to support FMCNA's mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy while gaining clinical experience under the supervision of a licensed social worker.
What type of education is required for this internship?
A high school diploma or G.E.D. is required for the internship.
Will I receive supervision during my internship?
Yes, the Clinical Manager assigns and closely monitors all assignments with direct supervision from a Social Worker Intern (SWFI) based on the agreed education plan.
Can I work with family members as patients during my internship?
No, the intern cannot care for a patient who is a family member and will be scheduled to work on days when their family member is not present in the facility or will be assigned to another patient.
How are patient assessments and care planning conducted?
As part of the interdisciplinary team, the intern will assess patients' psychosocial status and collaborate with the healthcare team to identify effective interventions for individualized care planning.
What type of training will I receive during the internship?
The internship includes training in psychosocial topics and participation in Ultra Care Programs as needed.
Are there specific customer service expectations for this role?
Yes, the intern is responsible for delivering outstanding customer service and developing effective relationships through timely communication with both external and internal customers.
What are the physical demands and working conditions for this internship?
The physical demands include desk work and interaction with patients, as well as travel between facilities and community locations. The work environment is characteristic of a healthcare facility.
Will I be involved in patient education?
Yes, the intern will assess patient knowledge regarding kidney disease and provide tailored education on treatment modalities and psychosocial issues related to End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD).
What other duties may I be responsible for during the internship?
The intern may perform various other duties as assigned, including maintaining updated resource lists and developing training for staff on psychosocial topics.
