What is the purpose of the Student Social Work Clinical Placement?
The purpose is to support FMCNA's mission and values while providing hands-on experience in a healthcare setting under the supervision of a licensed social worker.
What are the primary responsibilities of the student intern?
The primary responsibilities include patient assessment, care planning, counseling, customer service, patient education, assisting with financial assistance, and supporting the healthcare team.
What qualifications do I need to apply for this internship?
A high school diploma or GED is required, and a preferred focus on customer service and a desire to deliver superior care to patients.
Will I receive supervision during the internship?
Yes, the Clinical Manager assigns and closely monitors all social work intern assignments with direct supervision from a licensed social worker.
Can I work with family members as patients?
No, the intern cannot care for a patient who is a family member. If a family member is a patient, the intern will be scheduled on days when the patient is not in the facility or will be assigned to another patient.
Are there any physical demands associated with the position?
Yes, the role involves desk work, personal computer use, patient interaction, and travel between assigned facilities, with exposure to healthcare environments.
How many field education hours are required for this internship?
The minimum number of required field education hours is established by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
Is there an emphasis on professional development in this internship?
Yes, the internship focuses on promoting the integration of empirical and practice-based knowledge, as well as the development of professional competence.
What types of patient education will I provide?
You will assess patient knowledge of kidney disease, provide information tailored to patients’ needs, and educate them on psychosocial issues related to End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD).
What kind of community resources will I assist patients in accessing?
You will assist patients with referrals to resources like home health services, vocational rehabilitation, and financial assistance programs.
Do I need previous experience in healthcare to apply for this position?
While previous healthcare experience is not mandatory, a strong desire to deliver excellent patient care and outstanding customer service is preferred.
Is there an opportunity to participate in quality improvement activities?
Yes, interns are encouraged to actively participate in process improvement activities that enhance patient satisfaction and care quality.
Are there any specific training requirements for staff development that I will be involved in?
