What qualifications are required for the Trainee Clinical Perfusion Scientist position?
A relevant Honours Degree (minimum 2:1) is required, along with a recognised perfusion qualification and a minimum of 12 months post-qualification experience in perfusion.
Is prior experience mandatory for applying to this role?
Yes, candidates must have a recognised perfusion qualification and at least 12 months of post-qualification experience in perfusion. However, we welcome applications from Perfusionists who have not practiced for four years or more.
What kind of training will be provided for this role?
The successful applicant will undergo full in-service training that includes practical experience under supervision and academic study through a monthly block release as part of the Post Graduate Perfusion Science MSc programme at the University of Bristol, which is necessary for achieving professional accreditation.

What will be my primary responsibilities in this position?
Your primary responsibilities will include setting up and controlling the heart-lung bypass equipment during cardiac surgery, delivering clinical and professional perfusion services to the multidisciplinary team, and ensuring patient safety and effective care.
Do I need to participate in on-call duties?
Yes, you will need to be willing to participate fully in the on-call rota during your training.
What skills are essential for this role?
Essential skills include excellent communication, teamwork, adaptability to changing situations, high-level organisational skills, effective IT skills (Microsoft Office and perfusion systems), and the ability to work efficiently and effectively in stressful situations.
Will I be required to work outside of normal hours?
Yes, this role may require you to work unsociable hours and cover additional hours as needed.
