Requirements

  • - Graduate of a recognized PCA/HCA program which includes a medication administration course or have taken a separate medication administration course.
  • - Current approved standing with Alberta Health Care Aide directory.
  • - Ability to work with minimum supervision and/or independently and to evaluate and meet the residents’ service needs, demonstrating initiative and problem-solving skills.
  • - Ability to maintain effective oral and written communications in English and have a positive self-projection, nurturing excellent human relations with residents, families, and other team members.
  • - Experience with seniors is required.

  • - Education: Career College, Personal Support Worker / Health Care is required.
  • - Skills: Medication Administration, Environmental/Health and Safety/Regulatory, First Aid.

Responsibilities

  • - Perform duties with an acceptable standard of skill and with a sense of responsibility, those functions which provide for the personal care and service to residents.
  • - Assist with and/or dispense and administer medication delivery and ensures required documentation of all medications. Medications are pouched but may also include eye/ear/nose drops, creams, ointments, patches, inhalers, and suppositories.
  • - Assist in observing and reporting changes in the residents’ physical and emotional condition.
  • - Participates in the overall activation process developed by the residence to promote the well-being of each resident (physical, spiritual, social, and emotional).
  • - Performs personal assistance to promote comfort and safety for the resident in accordance with the standards of the residence.
  • - Maintains effective oral and written communication and good human relations with residents, families, and staff, using appropriate lines of communication.
  • - Recognizes safety hazards and assist in maintaining a safe, neat, clean environment for residents and personnel. It is every employee’s responsibility to report any unsafe work condition immediately.
  • - Responsible with all staff members to actively take part in the monitoring of all residents on a regular and on-going basis to ensure their safety and well-being. This protective oversight includes the responsibility to report any unusual occurrence, concern, or change in a resident’s daily life which may affect their health or welfare. The onus is upon all employees to formally document these incidents on a “CQI Incident Report”.
