What is the role of the Clinical Fellow in Intensive Care Medicine?
The Clinical Fellow in Intensive Care Medicine will assist on ward rounds, see appropriate ICU referrals, undertake procedures, and carry out necessary administrative tasks in the B36 Intensive Care Unit.
What patient population does the ICU serve?
The ICU at RUH admits approximately 1000 patients per year, with 85% of them being emergencies, including critically unwell children. The patient cohort is primarily 60% medical and 40% surgical.
What training opportunities are available for Clinical Fellows?
We offer multiple training opportunities including radiology meetings, ICU follow-up clinics, FUSIC club, targeted ICM teaching, monthly journal clubs, M&M sessions, and clinical governance sessions. There are also management and leadership opportunities for more senior trainees.
How many consultants and resident doctors are on the Intensive Care team?
The Intensive Care unit is staffed by a minimum of 2 consultants and 3 resident doctors (2 SHO and 1 SpR) seven days a week.
What are the facilities like in the new ward B36?
The new ward B36 will have a 16 bed capacity with various negative, neutral, and positive pressure ventilated rooms, offering excellent facilities for patients, their relatives, and staff, along with increased work and rest spaces compared to the current unit.

We have a well-established programme of support that takes a holistic approach to staff wellbeing, focusing on physical, emotional, spiritual, and financial aspects of living a healthy life.

Yes, our unit has a strong track record in research and quality improvement, with several professors engaged in the department.
