Requirements

  • A fully verifiable trade qualification in a relevant engineering discipline and verifiable additional training that is relevant to the proposed environment.
  • Understanding of LV power distribution and loading. Previous data centre (or similar lab) experience - desirable
  • An excellent understanding and experience of the electrical and mechanical systems used in a data Center environment, including: Feeders, Transformers, Generators, Fuel Systems, Switchgear, UPS systems, Battery banks, ATS/STS units, PDU/PMM units, Chillers, Air handling units, CRAC units, Fire Alarm systems, and Fire Suppression systems.
  • Experience of complex automatic control equipment, including relay logic, programmable logic controllers (PLC’s), building management systems, and their integration with the data Centre infrastructure.
  • Experience of medium voltage distribution systems and associated switch gear and protection equipment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate intelligently and effectively with the client and with contractors who perform maintenance or upgrade work on the data Centre systems.
  • Computer literate with the ability to compile and submit monthly and annual reports, and to monitor and trend operational characteristics (load, capacity, environmental conditions etc.) Good working ability on Microsoft Office Products.
  • The ability to learn quickly and to gain maximum benefit from extensive training and development programs aimed at ensuring that any identified knowledge or experience deficiencies are addressed in the short term.
  • Availability to work shift and to provide emergency cover as required.
  • Organized, able to effectively prioritize and deliver within a dynamic and high pressure, business critical environment.

  • The shift technician is the next point of contact to cover shifts during emergency situations to provide holiday and sickness cover at short notice. You must be flexible in your working patterns to support requirements dictated by the rhythm of the business & operational demands.

Responsibilities

  • - Be the main point of contact on the Shift for the client & CBRE management.
  • - The supervision of the central facilities operation centre and the shift during your shift rotation.
  • - Have full overview & awareness of all activities and, in conjunction with the day tech team and technical manager, will prioritize these activities.
  • - Train in the operation of all critical facility systems across the campus as outlined in the site-specific CBRE training syllabus. Areas include: Electrical, Mechanical, Building Monitoring, Fire and Controls.
  • - Monitor the Facilities Operations Centre and ensure that all monitoring System alarms are responded to in a timely manner.
  • - Assist the day tech team in the shutting down/startups of equipment as per site operational procedures to support all PM/CM activities (MOP) carried out by the PM Team or Vendors.
  • - Provide a detailed shift handover report to the incoming shift team, this must be in a written format & supported by verbal handover from your shift team to the next – covering all aspects of the operation of the facility.
  • - Monitor and respond to abnormal conditions in critical facility systems.
  • - Be the First response to fire alerts, equipment alarms and facility events.
  • - Fully conversant with the facility Emergency Response Plan, EOPs, and act as the shift liaison with security during site emergencies.
  • - After failures internal and external to the facility, use EOP’s to ensure site and personnel safety is maintained.
  • - Provide detailed reports for any/all incidents on site during your shift. Reports must be completed on the correct template & sent to the CBRE supervisory & Management Team. These reports are used as lessons learnt & can feed into a wider report to the Client or CBRE management.
  • - Ensure all critical notifications are up to date during your shift and then closed out correctly as required when the task is completed.
  • - Use CMMS to report all your facility related tasks – This includes recording all hours on site for the likes of Training, DRA’s, Procedure Creation/reviews, Permits, Vendor escorts, work performance etc.
  • - Using the CMMS, ensure to report all facility related tasks, all technician time must be accounted for & recorded in CMMS.
  • - Ensure completion of scheduled PMs/Corrective maintenance or any scheduled works via CMMS in a timely manner to achieve 100% PM compliance.
  • - Ensure all subcontractors are inducted and permitted to work within the CE domain. As required escort third party vendors to work locations and ensure area is safe to perform work.
  • - Review subcontractor statements, risk assessments and MSDS to ensure compliance with site health & safety and operating procedures prior to you or your shift team issuing permit to works.
  • - Carry out Vendor inspections during your shift, checking/monitoring quality of work, review data/service reports to include all break/fix, P.M.’s and project work on site.
  • - Author, Peer review, approve or carry out periodic reviews of all Operational Documentation (like EOP’s, Drills etc.) as issued by the shift lead & technical manager.
  • - Update and log all activities/time on CMMS. Ensure you update & record all your time/activities on CMMS correctly.
  • - Ensure the daily Shift Handover report is sent via email detailing activities and issues that have taken place and that require escalation.
  • - Ensure a shift audit is carried out on all CE systems within the FOC – BMS, EPMS, and Fireworks etc. at the end of your shift.
  • - Carry out drills & complete tool box talks as per KPI tracker.
  • - Report health and safety breaches through the ‘HAZARD’ process – it is each engineer’s responsibility to report hazards via the CBRE QHSE platform (4-sight etc.) and provide updates to the CEM/QHSE team.
  • - Follow up & close out any open hazards that are assigned to you or your team.
  • - Remain on site until relieved by incoming Shift Technician.
  • - Provide the QHSE Team & CEM with a report on the number of permits to work issued per month – Report on the likes of quantities, Permit types, high risk activities & permit inspections etc.
  • - Adherence to all quality, health & safety, and environmental policies within the Data Centre Domain.
  • - Ensure that all work areas are clean and tidy at all times.
  • - Ensure you wear the CBRE uniform including appropriate PPE as issued and that the professional image of CBRE is presented to clients and visitors at all times while on site.
  • - Act as the point of contact on site for matters relating to QHSE for the Campus QHSE Team.
  • - Contribute in the effective monitoring and of all known hazards and the effective closure of their associated action/s.
  • - Carry out weekly/Monthly site Safety inspections/walks.
  • - Deliver QHSE related briefings, Toolbox Talks and approved training modules.
  • - Deliver an approved ‘new starter’ QHSE induction to all new members of the CE team.
  • - Contribute in the effective maintenance of the site risk register and that of the associated assessments reviewing the efficiency of applied controls.
  • - Participate in monthly logbook reviews and QHSE audits.
  • - Complete regular Risk Champion audits on 4-sight – provide reports for the same to the QHSE manager.
  • - Contribute in incident investigations and review panels.
