What is the duration of the Fellowship in Spinal Surgery?
The Fellowship is for a period of 12 months, which is extendable to 18 to 24 months depending on needs, performance, and availability.
Who should apply for the Fellowship?
The post is ideally suited for an orthopaedic or neurosurgical trainee towards the end of their training with a specialist interest in spinal surgery techniques and complex spinal reconstruction.
Will the Spine Fellow be involved in on-call duties?
Yes, the Spine Fellow will have the opportunity to be involved in the spinal on-call service, and any on-call work carries additional remuneration.
What type of surgeries will the Spine Fellow gain experience in?
The Fellow will gain experience in all aspects of spinal surgery except for paediatric deformity and intradural work.
What responsibilities will the Spine Fellow have?
The Spine Fellow will be responsible for regular review of ward patients and coordinating the admission of spinal emergencies from surrounding hospitals, as well as participating in out-patient clinics and in-patient operating lists.
What kind of research opportunities will the Spine Fellow have?
The Spine Fellow will have regular research sessions as part of their experience.
