Responsibilities

  • 1. You will represent the organization in building government relations. Develop, cultivate, and maintain relationships with elected officials and key internal and external partners and organizations to increase awareness of Red Cross services. Attend hearings and official government functions as needed.
  • 2. Develop relationships across the organization and the nonprofit community to advance legislation. Maintain working relationships with other nonprofits, public policy, and advocacy groups to advance the Red Cross brand.
  • 3. Draft and deliver testimony for legislative hearings. Develop briefing papers and research projects to advance government relations. Create position papers, talking points and other documents to advance key legislative and regulatory positions.
  • 4. Participate in outreach activities to government officials, to include speaking engagements, and serve as spokesperson to strengthen awareness and advance the Red Cross services, programs, and brand. Participate on Government Relationship calls and committees and partner to develop legislative plans. Provide reports and updates to leadership to ensure their engagement and awareness of activities. Assist volunteers to advance advocacy identified priorities.
  • 5. Identify, monitor, understand, and partner across the Red Cross when necessary to ensure compliance with lobbying laws and requirements to include timely completion of lobbying disclosure forms. May participate in lobbying activities and/or arrange communications with government representatives.
  • 6. Monitor and track proposed legislations and regulations for possible impact and effect on the organization. Conduct research to identify anticipated issues impacting the programs and services of the organization.
  • 7. May develop and produce key communication vehicles and materials, including press releases, web strategies, op-eds, and talking points. Handle relationships with local print and broadcast media outlets. Support leadership with planning, messaging, and presenting crisis communications and response.
