Responsibilities

  • Retrieves, processes and ensure all discharge records from all patient care areas when applicable.
  • Initiates and performs technical procedure to analyze, or reanalyze, and monitor for medical record deficiencies according to Joint Commission and Medical Staff Rules and Regulations for regulatory requirements for emergency department records.
  • Processes notices to physicians of incomplete/delinquent medical records.
  • Assists medical staff members with record completion issues.
  • Assists medical staff members or ancillary staff in record access functions.
  • Performs concurrent studies as designated while providing and maintaining necessary documentation.
  • Retrieves and releases protected health information (PHI) from all systems in response to valid requests.
  • Ensures the confidentiality of all health information as required by Florida Statutes and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Maintains death documentation for monitoring and reporting as requested.
  • Processes fetal monitor strips.
  • Communicates cooperatively and constructively with physicians, patients, guests, and members of the healthcare team.
  • Complies with all Orlando Health policies and procedures, service expectations and standards of behavior.
  • Maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Trains in Birth Registry functions to include the e-Vitals electronic birth certificate processing system.
  • Trains in Cancer Database functions, particularly those related to cancer surveillance as deemed competent for an HIM Analyst II position (minimum 90 days).
  • Acquires knowledge of the American College of Surgeons standards, particularly as they relate to registry operations.
  • Charts transcribed reports and loose work for the physician practice as deemed competent for an HIM Analyst II position (minimum 90 days).
  • Performs audits for record completion purposes.
  • Works with minimal supervision task is learned.
  • Provides statistics as needed for the various reporting studies performed.
  • Assumes responsibility for professional growth and development.
  • For telecommuting positions, able to work independently and troubleshoot hardware/software items.
