  • Metal tooling experience for CNC machining, milling, turning and drilling
  • Conducting quality checks on prototype production parts to ensure consistency
  • Maintaining machines and running calibrations to guarantee they are running optimally
  • Maintaining a safe and clean workshop environment
  • Diagnosing and replacing electrical components in broken machinery
  • CAD skills are highly desired with experience in Solidworks, Fusion 360, Rhino Grasshopper
  • Experience with Design of Experiment (DOE) and experimental testing
  • Be passionate about innovation and idea generation
  • Highly organized and can juggle multiple projects at once
  • Good communication and good humoured under pressure
  • LabVIEW and some coding knowledge is desirable, but not necessary

Responsibilities

  • Manufacture prototypes – creating product prototypes and manufacturing injection moulded components. This includes operating machinery within our expanding ‘maker space’ workshop and maintaining equipment to a high standard of quality. Treat the space as a small production facility using CNC machining, injection moulding and general workshop tooling.
  • Conduct testing – conduct mechanical characterization for both raw materials and end-user parts. This includes Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), mechanical tensile testing, impact testing and many more. This will require high levels of rigour as reproducibility in characterization methods is mandatory.
  • Health and safety – be able to deliver on health and safety auditing within the workshop on a weekly basis. This means ensuring equipment is properly calibrated and running as expected, consistently maintaining a clean and safe working environment for all users of the workshop and empowering others to champion a culture of workplace safety for all.
  • Foster collaboration and innovation – work closely with cross-functional teams to drive the development of groundbreaking products by exchanging ideas, innovating and delivering solutions that allow us to rethink possible.
  • Deliver with rigour - maintain high quality and respect of safety standards and controls, ensuring every task needed is delivered on time. Ensure data is recorded carefully for future analysis and use. Bring a good knowledge of manufacturing techniques i.e. 5S, TPM, DFM, Error proofing etc.
  • Organization – work on numerous projects and keeping track of variations in sample parts, products, version control and material inventory. Knowledge of design of experiment is incredibly important to maximize efficiency.
