Requirements

  • J.D. degree required, license to practice law, and 8 years of experience providing legal advice on cybersecurity, data protection laws, and information security regulations
  • Proven experience in advising on cybersecurity, data protection laws, and information security regulations matters in a corporate setting.
  • Experience providing counsel throughout a security incident, including the investigation, analysis, and notification phases as required by applicable law.
  • Strong working knowledge of cybersecurity, data protection laws, information security and privacy regulations and laws, and industry standards such as NIST, ISO, and GDPR
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
  • Adept at delivering training and education on cybersecurity and data protection laws.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficient in collaborating with cross-functional teams
  • Skilled in coordinating with and managing outside counsel

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the principal legal advisor on cybersecurity, data protection laws, and information security regulations for Cox Enterprises.
  • Lead and promote the enterprise-wide adoption of data protection and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Develop and support the implementation of information security policies and procedures in response to changes in laws, regulations, and business practices.
  • Advise and assist technology and security teams in conducting investigations into suspected privacy incidents, including determining the applicability of privacy/data breach laws and requirements for notifying users and regulators.
  • Conduct legal reviews related to information security for new and evolving products and services, new market penetration, or other material changes.
  • Review and negotiate terms related to information security in contracts and agreements.
  • Provide training and education on cybersecurity, data protection laws, and information security regulations to company employees.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address issues related to cybersecurity, data protection laws, and information security regulations.
